Cashew Nut Conference 2009 - NaFORRI

The 2 nd International Cashew Conference

Following the success of the First Cashew and Coconut International Conference held in Dar-es-salaam Tanzania in 1997, the Regional Cashew Improvement Network for Eastern and Southern Africa (RECINESA), funded by the Common Fund for Commodities (CFC) is organizing the end of RECINESA Project workshop followed by the 2 nd International Cashew Conference on Cashew, People and Environment to be held in Sheraton Hotel Kampala, Uganda from 26 th – 29 th April 2010. The Conference will share experiences and successes of the RECINESA Project, and will examine long-term challenges and opportunities for income generation, livelihoods, environment, harmonizing production and marketing in the Cashew sub-sector regionally and globally.

The Conference will include plenary, technical, poster sessions and exciting field trips in Uganda such as to the source of the Nile, Gorilla sanctuaries and National parks, Cashew growing areas and various historical sites in Kampala . Participants will include prominent stakeholders with long experience in the Cashew value chain including the latest developments such as farmer groups-dynamics, breeding, agronomy, crop protection, propagation, biotechnology, processing, marketing, extension services cashew and climate change and harmony of cashew people and the environment.

Authors from all over the world are invited to submit papers/posters abstracts of about 250 words to the Conference Secretariat by 31 st December, 2009 and full paper of about 2000 words by 28 th February 2010. As a network RECINESA is calling upon sponsors to make the conference affordable and encourage sponsors from stakeholders, NGOs, Private and Public Institutions, International Organization, Local and International Financial Institutions to achieve the goal of the conference of: sharing experiences and examining long-term challenges and opportunities in the Cashew sub-sector .
